This individual adventure is a FULL-DAY Program that is focused on developing Group Facilitation Skills. Our company has been around for 40+ years, guiding groups through a wide variety of adventures, including high-adventure outdoor activities, like camping, hiking, and ropes course climbing, and also portable problem-solving programming. Throughout our time, we have developed a culture of leading groups at the highest levels. Along our path, we have picked up some techniques that work really, and we have also discovered what doesn’t work well! This program is designed to develop the skills that are at the core of our practices. We want to pass along what we have learned to eager like-minded people.
WHO BENEFITS FROM THE GUIDE PROGRAM?
Of course – we believe ANYONE can benefit from the skills outlined in this program. But to be more specific – anyone who is a GUIDE for a person or group of people will likely find the content relevant and helpful. When we say GUIDE, we also mean LEAD. Many of the topics are about the Mindset of a GUIDE. The other parts are about the necessary skills for leading a group really effectively. Knowing this here is a short, and incomplete list of people who might find this relevant:
- Club Sponsor / Coordinator
- Volunteer Group Leader / Coordinator
- Church Youth Group Leader or Mentor
- Coach for a Sport Team
- Teacher, Administrator, or other School Position
- Scout Leader
- Company / Organization Leader or Manager
WHAT WILL WE COVER?
The Program is split into four Sessions. Two in the morning, and two in the afternoon.
Before talking much about the topics involved with each session, each session will involve several activities to introduce or practice or integrate the topics in a more experiential manner.
Session 1 – topics include the importance of Framing the Experience, and ideas. What type of community would we like to have?
Session 2 – discuss the value of the team, setup ideas around the qualities of a great leader, and then we will take the Working Genius Personality Assessment, and integrate this into the learning for the day. Part of being a great leader, is first about leading yourself, and we must know ourselves in order to do so!
Session 3 Communication techniques, and the practice of being relational vs. transactional.
Session 4: Reflection Strategies and guiding conversations, and then we will wrap up the day, and tie together those ideas about being a great leader, and what being a great community looks like.
