Dress appropriately for the weather conditions throughout the day! Challenge Discovery programs are run in all kinds of weather, from 25 degrees to 105 degrees, rain or shine! It is always advisable to bring rain gear and an extra jacket even if you don’t think you’ll need it. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing for physical activity that can get a little dirty, and dress in layers to be outdoors. To ensure a proper fit of safety gear, wear long hair in a low ponytail for helmet fitting, and avoid above-thigh shorts for harness fitting. Hats are suggested for sunny days because there is very little shade. Hiking shoes or sneakers are best; ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR CLOSED TOE SHOES TO PARTICIPATE IN TEAMODYSSEY PROGRAMS.
TeamMobile and TeamingtheTeacher programs will be held at your location and will have an indoor option for poor weather.
Leave all valuables at home. This includes watches, rings, etc. If you forget to leave them at home, secure them in your vehicle upon arrival to the course. We cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen items. You are welcome to bring hats, sunglasses and cameras.
Bring medications. If you will need to take medications during the day or use an inhaler, be sure to bring them. Notify your coordinator of any physical conditions or limitations that might limit your participation.
Fill out and turn in forms. All participants doing a TeamOdyssey program must fill out the required forms online. See step 2 below for the links to these forms. Forms are not required for TeamMobile or Teaming the Teachers programs.
Eat a substantial meal before attending the program or bring a snack. Our activities are physical in nature and require more energy than you might be used to in a normal day. In addition, the program’s schedule may not break at a regular time for a meal. Please check with your coordinator to see if you are required to bring a lunch or if lunch will be provided. In addition, get a good night’s sleep before the program.
No one — including adult participants — can participate in TeamOdyssey until they have filled out the required forms. All participants must fill out the forms ONLINE. If the participant is younger than 18, a parent or guardian will need to sign the forms. You must input the correct date of the program for us to be able to track your form properly. Please fill out both of the forms below.
Please note that we do not track form submittal on our end, so we encourage coordinators to make sure all participants have signed the Participant Agreement form. To do this, check this Form Submission Spreadsheet for the names of your group members. If you’d like to search for their name or sort in alphabetical order, you can copy and paste the list into a new document.
ALL participants including buses, drop-offs, and parking cars should use Lot U27 (See map below).
All vehicles parking on campus (either in Lot U27, or another Challenge-Discovery-Approved-Parking-Lot) will need to print the parking pass below, and place on your dashboard, visible from outside of the car.
Please contact us, or the coordinator of your program, if you have questions or concerns.
When using GPS or phone navigation to get to the Odyssey High Ropes Course, please use: 1600 UR Drive, Henrico, VA 23229.
Challenge Discovery is working hard to stay informed, by following protocol and guidelines from the Governor, the CDC, and University of Richmond Interim Policies. We have postponed all TeamOdyssey (ropes course) programs until further notice.
In times like these, it is important to stay connected to one another. We have been considering how WE can be a part of this by helping our clients and the Richmond community to stay connected. In response to the need to continue to connect remotely, we have developed a program, called Virtual Teams, which allows groups to connect virtually, via video conference. We are also delivering our COMMON GROUND program using COVID-19 friendly activities in which students stay 6 ft. apart. Both programs are available at only $20 per person.
Please do your part and follow all CDC guidelines so that we can get past this pandemic, and find ourselves learning from one another, side-by-side again, very soon!
